In many ways, the things that happened in the former Nazi Germany after its defeat in World War II are just as important to historians as that which happened during the Third Reich.
Hunger, cold, arrests, war trials and the destruction of much of the old Nazi infrastructure in the old Grossdeutschland were things that happened every day. The booming economy in Germany under the western Allies in the 1950s was a direct result of US and British policies in Germany in the last half of the 1940s.
HEUTE (Today) magazines was an important part of the American effort by the Information Services Branch of the US Army in Occupied Germany to present the German population with a dependable source of information and pictures related to current events in Europe and elsewhere. Each big 10-1/2 x 14 inch, 28 or so page twice-monthly issue was crammed with captioned photographs and a relatively small amount of text, sort of like LIFE magazine without the advertising. Even it were not for the history in each issue of HEUTE, the image content is unique and amazing. Seventy years after publication, examples of HEUTE magazine are virtually impossible to find in any condition. We offer FIVE lots of the rare magazines here.
