Ränzlein 1942, Ein Jahrbüchlein für die deutsche Jugend (A Little Knapsack Yearbook for the German Youth) published for the Reichsverband für Deutsche Jugendherbergen (DJH, the German Youth Hostel organization) in Berlin by Deutscher Heimat-Verlag in Bielefeld in 1941. Note the DJH logo incorporating the HJ diamond on the front cover.

Author Otto Scholz is listed as "currently a Hauptmann and Battalion Commander in the Wehrmacht".  The illustrations, many of Hitler Youth boys and BdM girls, in this 4-1/8 x 5-¾ inch, 48 page softcover publication are by Ilse Mau.

The book has stories for German boys and girls about adventures, history, animals, the Lilienthal brothers, Christmas Eve in German Southwest Africa, the weather, a patriotic story about the importance of being German, a short quote from a speech by Adolf Hitler, a poem by a DRK nurse, and a calendar for 1942.

This 82+ year old original example of Ränzlein 1942, Ein Jahrbüchlein für die deutsche Jugend is in very nice little used condition. Original staples, no writing, no odor.
DJH Jugendherberge Wewelsburg
The DJH, the German Youth Hostel organization is still in business today. The photo left, taken in November 2016, shows their sign at the entrance of one of their facilities.  A rather historic one at Wewelsburg Castle!
