While the bowl is nicely dated with the original manufacture date of 1927 and the proper silver weight of 6 grams, potential buyers must know that the monogram could have been applied to 1927 bowls in stock at the Wellner factory after that date, as they often carried inventory for several years.

The bowl is precisely the size it should be according to the Wellner catalog: 5.5 cm (2-1/8 inches) tall, 12.5 cm (4-15/16 inches) in diameter, it weighs 170 grams (6 ounces), and is made of Wellner’s famous Alpaca metal surfaced with 6 grams of real silver.

This is a GENUINE 80+ year old Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler hammer finish silver Fingerschale or finger bowl as correctly manufactured by Original Wellner Aug. Wellner Söhne A.G., and properly marked with a LAH monogram stamped (not engraved) with a steel Wellner die into the bottom. The monogram is NOT engraved in the metal as a high percentage of the fakes in circulation today are. It is easy for anyone to tell that the LAH monogram was stamped in the bottom of the bowl by Wellner because the width of the lines in the LAH monogram vary from very thin to quite wide. That discrepancy can not be done hand- or machine engraving.

Third Reich Wellner catalogs show, describe and price this very bowl as item Nummer 4561 Fingerschale gehämmert selling without a monogram for Reichsmarks 6.50 (see reference images left & below).

Our first photos show the bowl exactly as we have had it for many years, with a darkened patina covering the entire piece.

As you can also see in our photo of the inside and bottom of the bowl and its monogram, the piece is in excellent 80+ year old used condition and will respond beautifully to a full polishing with good quality polish and a soft cloth. Wear on the bottom surface of this rare piece as a result of use is very minor and can barely be seen when held in the hand. We feel they only add to the history of the piece and its use.

Most importantly, we want to make sure potential buyers understand that the Wellner manufacturing date 1927 on this piece in no way devalues this or any other bowl, and that the stamped steel die image of the LAH monogram is exactly what any expert should expect. That is the way this bowl was marked for shipment to the Nazi Party office that purchased it for the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler directly from Aug. Wellner Söhne A.G.

While we have seen silver service pieces hand-engraved with monograms and/or logos of lesser organizations than the LAH, we have NEVER seen a piece of Wellner that was hand-engraved at the factory.

While individuals and organizations could purchase Wellner pieces from retailers and have them hand engraved by jewelers, for example, Wellner did not offer that service. They either rolled on the identification on curved surfaces, or pressed it on flat surfaces. When we encounter hand engraved SS pieces in the 21st century without any provenance whatsoever, we believe any buyer has every right to question their origins.
