WEHRMACHT PARADE DRESS TUNIC FOR A CAPTAIN OF THE VETERINARY SERVICE
Nazi uniform collar tabs
bullion embroidered Nazi breast eagle
Karmesin (carmine) Waffenfarb piping
Nazi uniform cuffs
In even the most complete collections of German World War II uniforms, one only rarely encounters one of these brightly piped tunics. That's because they were worn by only a tiny fraction of all Wehrmacht troops.

This well-tailored Third Reich tunic is far more unusual than most as it bears the shoulder insigne of rank of a Stabsveterinär or Captain in the German Veterinary Corps. The tunic was only recently purchased from the family of the deceased American veteran who brought it back to the United States in 1945. It has never been taken to a militaria show of any kind and has never been in the hands of a militaria dealer.
The tunic has a 2 mm Karmesin (carmine) Waffenfarb piping around the collar and down the front, as well as around the tops and edges of both cuffs and on the back. The shoulder boards and excellent collar tabs match the piping. There is a fine quality bullion embroidered breast eagle as shown.

Stabsveterinär or Captain in the German Veterinary Corps
We do not know the name of the original owner of this tunic but his first name began with the letter P and his dogtag and Soldbuch number was 9705 according to a Third Reich era dry cleaning tag attached to the lining at the bottom of the right side of the jacket (shown above).

There are coat hanger loops inside the sleeves at each shoulder inside the cotton sateen-lined coat. There is a pocket inside the left breast and a belt with a metal buckle attached to each side at the waist. There are three collar studs and two collar hooks inside the collar. All the buttons appear to be from the same lot and are marked EXTRA FEIN on the back. There are thread loops on the left breast for the pins of medals or a ribbon bar that have been cut when someone removed the medals, and there are small holes from the pins of medals that were once pinned directly to the coat.

The measurements of genuine Nazi tunic are as follows:
NECK: 18 inches • SHOULDERS: 17-1/2 inches • SLEEVES: 25 inches • BACK LENGTH: 27 inches • ARMPIT to ARMPIT: 20 inches
The defects to be found on this parade dress tunic are as follows:
There are several small holes in the green covering of the collar just back of the left collar tab. There are a few small holes near the front piping at the bottom of the tunic. There are three holes or abrasions on the outside of the left sleeve and a couple more at and below the elbow. There is a hole between the "button holes" on the left cuff. There are abrasions between the left shoulder board and the collar apparently from carrying binoculars or an equipment bag as they are in line with the holes on that side of the collar. We suspect that the original owner was right-handed because the backside of the right cuff has holes worn through it in spots while the left cuff does not. There are a couple of holes about 6 inches in form the right sleeve on the back of the right shoulder, and there are a few other small but not very obvious holes here and there on the jacket. Most of the small holes in this Nazi veterinary tunic would not be seen if they were repaired carefully.
While the outside cloth on this tunic needs a bit of attention to improve its condition, the shoulder boards, collar tabs, cuff "button holes" and the trim on the back certainly do not - those details are in excellent condition. This is a nice used Parade Dress Tunic for a Nazi Wehrmacht Veterinary Hauptmann that would display beautifully just as it is if pressed and trimmed out with medals, a belt and an aiguillette.
