![Linz an der Donau die Patenstadt des Führers und Gründungsstadt des Großdeutschen Reiches](images/LinzAH/LAD1.jpg)
This is a very rare 1939 Nazi era photo publication about the city of Linz on the Danube river. After the death of his father, Adolf Hitler lived in Linz with his mother Klara and he felt a close connection to it. He had also earlier lived with his parents in Leonding, on the southwestern outskirts of Linz. Several of his paintings have scenes in and around the city and he visited Linz on 12 March 1938, the day of his triumphant return to Austria. Hitler considered himself to be the Paten or godfather of Linz and he had big industrial and cultural plans for the city, including the Führermuseum, a huge art complex. It was also where he planned to retire after the war.

![LINZ on the trading rout of Europe](images/LinzAH/LAD8.jpg)
It starts with a full-page photo of Der Führer und Reichskanzler on the balcony of Linz City Hall on the evening of 12 March 1938, the day he returned to his Heimat, the country of his birth. This is followed by a chapter written by the Lord Mayor of Gauhauptstadt Linz, Sepp Wolkerstorfer. This part has photos of the Adolf Hitler Platz (square) in downtown Linz, empy and filled with huge crowds of Hitler admirers. There are also photos of the houses in and just outside Linz at Leonding, where Hitler lived as a boy and where his parents were buried.
There is historical information about the city, accompanied by old illustrations of sieges and rulers, death masks, paintings, as well as photos of the exteriors and interiors of historic churches. The central location of Linz is the focus of a chapter on trade through the centuries. This part of the book contains photos of the port facilities of Linz as well as the market of Linz where country farmers brought their merchandise.
Linz an der Donau, die Patenstadt des Führers is a rare 8-1/4 x 11-5/8 inch, 64 page photo publication published by NS-Gau-Verlag Oberdonau as a Special Edition of the magazine Heimatland.
