Few people today ever stop to consider how the news of the assassination of Nazi Deputy Reichsprotector Reinhard Heydrich impacted the lives of ordinary people, or people in ordinary businesses when it was announced at the time he died in Bulovka Hospital in Praha (Prag in German) 04 June 1942.
As Heydrich's subsequent Prague memorial service and ceremony took place on 10 June, the May-June issue of Casopis Turistu was still being prepared for printing. The publisher decided to print a full-page black-bordered announcement officially mourning the loss of the highest ranking government official in the German Protectorate Böhmen und Mähren, Reinhard Heydrich.
The genuine announcement we offer for sale here, is a genuine double-sided 7-7/8 x 11 inch page taken from the May-June issue of the popular tourist magazine Casopis Turistu. Inside of a heavy black border is a large formal portrait picture of Heydrich in his SS General's uniform with a statement about his death below it. The information printed there will come as a surprise to many who have read about Heydrich's tenure in Prague.
The back side of the page (shown right) consists of retail advertising for tourist products and services such as camera film and film processing, etc.
Most histories that cover the assassination of SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich by commandoes sent from Britain in 1942 will never acknowledge that his untimely death was ever mourned by anyone in the Protektorat.
This piece of ephemera is thus very rare and possibly unique. It is in very good used condition with no odor.
