This is a lot of three fine original heavily illustrated 8-1/4 x 11-5/8 inch Third Reich German-language magazines published by Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen to advertise their cruise itineraries for 1935 and 1937.

SPRING 1937 NDL CRUISES MEDITERRANEAN, AFRICA

This big, heavily illustrated 22 page magazine advertises five Norddeutscher Lloyd cruise itineraries from February through June 1937. The Mediterranean and Black Sea cruises range from 18 to 24 days and include stops at Lisbon, Madeira, Tenerife, Casablanca, Malaga, Barcelona, Gibraltar, Messina, Naples, Haifa, Villefranche, Genoa, Venice, Istanbul, Constantinople, Athens, Rhodos, Corfu, Santorini, Nauplion, Dubrovnik, Palestine, Egypt, Tripolis, Algiers, Malta, etc.

The centerfold (shown above) has 24 pictures of stops on these Third Reich NDL cruises and a special fold-out panel at the bottom with a 16-3/8 inch wide picture of the Norddeutscher Lloyd cruise ship General von Steuben in the harbor of Venice flying a swastika flag!

SPRING 1935 NDL CRUISES MEDITERRANEAN, AFRICA

This big heavily illustrated 18 page magazine advertises five Norddeutscher Lloyd cruise itineraries from February through June 1935. The Mediterranean cruises range from 15 to 21 days and include stops at Lisbon, Madeira, Tenerife, Casablanca, Malaga, Barcelona, Gibraltar, Messina, Naples, Genoa, Venice, Istanbul, Athens, Corfu, Santorini, Split, Dubrovnik, Haifa, Port Said, Tripolis, Malta, etc.

Pages 12 and 13 list all the cabin options and page 15 and 17 list important details about optional land excursions, luggage, dress code, fitness facilities, extra costs for single travelers, payment for drinks on board, tips for service personnel, cancelation costs, medical costs, letters and telegrams, etc.

This 1935 Norddeutscher Lloyd spring cruise book has pictures of many of the destinations as well as special photo coverage of the steamship General von Steuben. This ship later provided German troop accommodations during World War II, and from 1944 as an armed transport. On 10 February 1945, while evacuating German military personnel and civilian refugees, the ship was torpedoed by the Soviets in the Baltic Sea. It sank, causing the deaths of approximately 4,000 people.

Like the other two Norddeutscher Lloyd cruise books above, this 88 year old cruise advertising magazine has pictures of the destinations as well as happy travelers, dining rooms, menu examples, cabins, onboard activities, etc.

In the back there is information about cabin options and prices, and the back color cover has valuable travel information about clothing, luggage, passports and visa, mail, etc.

SPRING 1937 NDL ANNIVERSARY CRUISES

This big, heavily illustrated 16-page cruise catalog advertises three spring 1937 Norddeutscher Lloyd cruise itineraries on their steamship the Stuttgart. The Dampfer Stuttgart was turned into a KdF cruise ship in 1938, became a Nazi hospital ship in 1939 and was sunk in 1943 after it was struck by Allied bombs at the naval base at Gdynia on the Baltic coast (then East Prussia, now Poland).

All three cruise itineraries started in Bremen. Two different Mediterranean trips included stops at Southhampton, Lisbon, Gibraltar, Madeira, Tenerife, Tangiers and Casablanca.

The third spring cruise was to Ireland and England from 15 - 23 May 1937.

All three original Third Reich NDL cruise advertising books are in very nice used condition, no odor.
