This is a rare original November 1942 information publication for people working for the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (DRK or German Red Cross). The 8-¼ x 11-½ inch, 24 page DRK-Arbeitsbrief was published at the Nazi Red Cross headquarters in Berlin by the DRK Presse- und Werbeamt, and this is only the second Issue of the first year of publication dated November 1942.

Chapters are written by medical doctors and DRK officials. Subjects covered include how to successfully organize DRK information evenings at local DRK chapters, early history of the German Red Cross, medicinal plants, practical schooling for female DRK helpers, re-education for female DRK personnel that will work in Soldier Homes and Rehabilitation Facilities for wounded of the Wehrmacht, personal hygiene while working for the DRK in the homeland or at the front, and knowledge about contagious diseases.

The back cover has directions on when and how to file death declarations for missing front line soldiers. In preparation for Christmas, this November 1942 DRK-Arbeitsbrief also has the musical score for the song Der Tannenbaum.

The magazine urges DRK members to share their experiences, knowledge and practical tips to be used in future editions of the DRK-Arbeitsbrief. It is pointed out that you are thereby helping other DRK employees in their work for the Fatherland. “Cooperation is [your] Duty!”

Few of these DRK-Arbeitsbriefe survived World War II, and this 80+ year old example is in very good, little used condition. It has no writing and no odor.

At one time it was folded through the middle for mailing, but it has been stored flat and away from light for at least the last 25 years.
